Overview
OFF-LABEL is a concept for a safety-first exercise prescription experience for people recovering from cancer treatment. I designed three core flows, onboarding, daily execution, and escalation, taking safety and oversight requirements into clear IA, UI states, and a testable hi-fi prototype.OFF-LABEL

At a Glance
A safety-first exercise prescription experience for cancer recovery

What:
A patient-facing app supported by an oversight workflow for onboarding, daily execution, and escalation.
Why:
To help patients follow exercise guidance with confidence—by making safety boundaries and “what to do next” unambiguous.
How:
Step-based onboarding + a Clear/Caution/Hold safety gate + explicit review/escalation states that show when oversight is involved.
Who benefits:
Patients in recovery who need clear, low-friction guidance.

Framing
I spoke with people recovering from cancer treatment. Three things kept surfacing, and each one pointed straight at a design decision.

Patients can do the work, but they shouldn’t carry the risk alone. So I turned those needs into a structure built around oversight, organized into mental spaces a patient could navigate even under stress.

Flow 01: Trial Onboarding
Onboarding had to reduce intimidation, not pile on information. A low-density primer, one screen at a time with a single Continue, sets expectations before a light six-step setup that keeps inputs small and decisions clear.
Flow 02: Daily Prescription Execution
The daily flow stays calm and task-first: a clear “today” entry, lightweight guidance while you move, simple logging. When something feels off, it prioritizes clarity over motivation, helping you pause, adjust, or reach support without guessing.
Flow 03: Escalation
When something’s off, the next step shouldn’t send you hunting. From the daily flow, an overlay card appears in place: symptom reports route to Oversight, device issues to the Data Link Monitor. You capture what matters and see what happens next, without breaking the flow.

Reflection
Key Learnings
What did I learn?
The hardest part was making a clinical-heavy experience feel calm and doable for a patient.
“Good structure” wasn’t enough. Patients need to stay oriented under stress: what matters today, what’s safe, what to do when something feels off. The work was less about adding features, more about reducing ambiguity.「结构合理」并不够。
If I took this further
I’d run a small pilot to stress-test comprehension and handoffs: can patients navigate, onboard, and follow the daily flow without confusion, and do symptom and device issues reach the right support path?
