Overview
Bed and Jam is a concept for a 3D jam space where musicians discover sounds and co-create asynchronously. You explore a galaxy of tracks, preview by listening, add a layer in your own time, and leave it for others to build on. As the sole designer, I shaped the end-to-end loop and built it into an interactive, vibe-coded prototype, from discovery and preview to joining, layering, and returning.

What:
A 3D jam space for discovering sounds and co-creating asynchronously一个 3D 的合奏空间,存的是可以被取走的素材而不是成品。
Why:
Make collaboration feel safe and natural—valuing authenticity over polish, and the beauty of imperfection
How:
Listen-first discovery + anonymous nodes + async layering (preview → join → add a layer → upload → persist)
Who benefits:
Bedroom musicians, hobbyist producers, first-time collaborators, online music communities (linkable)
Discovery
What stops the music
Framing
Across music-maker communities, the same fear kept surfacing: not “I can’t make it,” but “I can’t share it.”

Bed and Jam flips the default:Bed and Jam
Start with listening, keep identity lightweight, and make collaboration asynchronous.
Design
Creating Bed and Jam
The whole design works to lower one thing: the pressure of being seen. Two moves carry it.
Design move 01
Sound as identity, revealed through preview I made sound the identity, not a profile. Hovering a node previews the track instantly, and clicking opens a lightweight mini-DAW where it shows as a waveform. You meet the music first, with zero self-presentation.
Design move 02
Async collaboration through layering The jam space is a library of floating tracks you can stack and arrange. You layer anonymous nodes into a mix, shape it, then join the jam, so collaboration happens through composition, not real-time socializing.

Reflection
Key Learnings
What did I learn?
I designed collaboration as a mood, not a meeting.
The hardest part wasn’t building features, it was protecting the “unfinished” moment. Making sound the identity and letting people layer asynchronously keeps authenticity over polish.
I’d prove it works by measuring contribution, not applause.
Short prototype sessions to see if people find a vibe, layer a mix, and upload without overthinking, then iterate on where they drop off.
Bonus - this was my first vibe-coded interactive prototype.
Building it as a live, interaction-led prototype let me design the mechanics in motion instead of as static screens.
